Avebury is a beautiful old village in Wiltshire in the UK and is home to Avebury Stone Circle - a set of enormous standing stones in a circular earthwork around the centre of the village. Being very popular with tourists and locals it's well worth a visit and is easily accessed by the No. 49 bus from Swindon bus station, or by road to the large visitor car park. I have been there many times and for this visit I took an old Russian FED2 camera, which is a copy of a Leica, and a roll of Ilford HP5+ 400 ASA film. The images are in the Themes section of this web site, but here is a small sample.

Film photography has a very different feel from digital, even though I scan the negatives and use a digital workflow from that point on. There's a sense of mystery about what the final image will look like because its not instantly visible on the camera screen, and there's trepidation when processing the roll of film which turns to relief and joy when the negative emerge and can be seen for the first time. Its only then that the success or failure of the trip can be known and the results appreciated. There is still a place for film photography in many people's lives, and I will try to keep my film cameras fully functional as long as possible.
Although often very busy with tourists, it is still possible to find a quiet spot to capture the beauty of this historic site,
